Routine Cleanings: General dentistry includes things like regular teeth cleanings. We recommend getting a routine dental cleaning every six months, which prevents excessive plaque buildup. If left untreated, plaque can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. A cleaning is performed by our dentist or dental hygienist. Dental cleanings generally take about 45 minutes, longer if it’s been a while since your last cleaning.
Preventive dentistry is the art of preventing non-optimum conditions in the teeth and support structures in the mouth. Some examples of preventive dentistry are:
Periodontal Therapy: Periodontal disease is a serious condition which can progress largely unnoticed. It affects the gums and can damage or completely destroy the supporting structure of the mouth, eventually resulting in loss of teeth. Fortunately, the condition can be detected by a normal dental checkup and treated early before the condition worsens. A state of advanced periodontal disease can also be treated to halt the damage to the mouth and gums.
Root Canal Therapy: If the interior of the tooth, where the nerve and blood supply are located, becomes infected or traumatized, a root canal procedure may be the only means of saving the tooth. Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal treatment is painless and no more difficult than other common dental procedures. When needed, it is a very important procedure to have done. It also helps protect against future infection.
Tooth Extraction: We provide simple oral surgery, such as tooth extractions, when a tooth has been badly damaged and is otherwise unable to be salvaged. Our first interest will be saving your tooth. But when needed we perform any simple tooth extraction which may be needed as part of your dental treatment.
